Sometimes decisions can either change your life or destroy it. It all depends on what path you choose to walk on because the wrong direction might lead to consequences. In Interview with the
Vampire by Anne Rice has a similar problem. This book is about Louis telling his story to a boy and how he became a vampire, that one bite from Lestat, the vampire that bit him changed his life forever. Louis struggles with becoming a vampire and embraces himself for his terrible decision by becoming a vampire because he had no choice; he was forced to choose between his mortal life or become a vampire because his human for is dying because of the bite. His new life is just beginning in the world of darkness
One struggle that he was dealing with is before he became a vampire when he could only see the sun one last time. He specifically said it, "It was...the last sunrise" (15.) This quote is important because Louis decided to become a vampire so he will not see the sun anymore. That is one of his weaknesses . This specific decision altered his life because of what Lestat did to him. he had no choice; either to die or become a vampire. This might affect humans because they might choose something but not know the consequences. It can modify their life but not in a decent way.
Another struggle that Louis has is after he became a vampire or actually in the process of it. For example, "All of my human fluids were being forced out of me. I was dying as a human yet completely alive as a vampire,"(22). This quote explains how Louis is in the first stage of transforming into his vampire form. He is developing vampire instincts while his human instincts rot away. This might refer to humans because they will be embracing the change and adapt to it. It might become part of their life.
The final struggle is Stage 2 of the transformation, which are his fangs, like Louis said, "I went into his neck. My teeth had only just begun to change, and I had to tear his neck not puncture it,"(30). The reason for this quote is Louis's fangs are just developing so he couldn't get a clean kill bloodying his prey's neck. Instead of puncturing it like Lestat, he had to tear his victims neck. It was his first kill as well. He did not want to kill in the first place but his hunger got the better of him. This might refer to humans because sometimes they have no choice but to go through with their adaptation even though they can't bear it. They are taking one big step.
Imagine how Louis felt about his decision to become a vampire; the one where he was forced to decide on. I was able to relate to Louis because sometimes I was stuck between to decisions. I would often choose the wrong one. Then i would suffer the consequences which are unbearable and painful. Sometimes I have no other choice. Louis felt the same way. He couldn't bear to kill humans. His hear took the better of him and Lestat always tried to change it. Louis couldn't stand fatalities of humans but right now it is his nature. He is the predator and the mortals are the prey. This might connect to humans like us because we might have to deal with our penalties from our decisions. It is always two decisions that we are stuck between. A tip that I would give is listen to your heart. It always has the right path to follow. Later in the future, you would not have to suffer the consequences. Louis is doing the same thing. He is adapting to his nature with a little companion.
